- Forearm laceration or injury
Contraindications
- Infection overlying injection site
- Allergy to local anesthetic
Equipment
- 10-15cc of local anesthetic of choice
- 18-22G needle
- Saline Flush
- Cleansing solution
- Ultrasound with high-frequency linear transducer
- Ultrasound transducer sterile cover
Prepration
Position
The patient is positioned supine with the upper extremity abducted.
Ultrasound
- The musculocutaneous nerve (arrow) in the distal axilla runs in a fascial plane between the biceps and the coracobrachialis muscles apart from the axillary neurovascular complex (dotted line)
- In-plane needle visualization
- Inject local anesthetic inferior to the musculocutaneous nerve
