Indications

  • Forearm laceration or injury

Contraindications

  • Infection overlying injection site
  • Allergy to local anesthetic

Equipment

  • 10-15cc of local anesthetic of choice
  • 18-22G needle
  • Saline Flush
  • Cleansing solution
  • Ultrasound with high-frequency linear transducer
  • Ultrasound transducer sterile cover

Prepration

Position

The patient is positioned supine with the upper extremity abducted.

Ultrasound

  1. The musculocutaneous nerve (arrow) in the distal axilla runs in a fascial plane between the biceps and the coracobrachialis muscles apart from the axillary neurovascular complex (dotted line)
  2. In-plane needle visualization
  3. Inject local anesthetic inferior to the musculocutaneous nerve
